Grace Space

Time: Sundays after 9:30 am service

Contact: Nashanna Sharp at gracespaceyouth@gmail.com

Middle School students experience fellowship on Sunday mornings through Grace Space, located upstairs in the Youth room.  The youth have the best snacks and everyone knows it!

Over doughnuts and OJ, we engage in conversation that goes between casual to intellectual and political. We talk about the world today, what matters to us, and how we can be peacemakers and life-givers. The ambiance is cool and casual and students are encouraged to come as their authentic selves. We rotate between learning Old and New Testament and Lutheran Living Principles. On occasion Grace Space will meet off church campus, in a coffee shop within walking distance of the church because… why not?

During the school year, Grace Space does not happen the last Sunday of the Month.

Confirmation is not a lure to bore our students into submission. We do not want to control our youth by planting already formed ideas into their spongy like brains. We do however wish to connect the Gospel with their lives and give them freedom and independence to affirm a promise that was made on their behalf when they were baptized.

When our students were baptized, the adults in their lives promised to… live with them among God’s faithful people, bring them to the word of God and the holy
supper, teach them the Lord’s Prayer, the Creed and the Ten Commandments, place in their hands the holy Scriptures, and nurture them in faith and prayer, so that your children may learn to trust God, proclaim Christ through word and deed, care for others and the world God made, and work for justice and peace.” Confirmation is version 2.0 of that promise.

Confirmation includes five teaching points, two years, four retreats and four milestones. Confirmation Education will be on Sunday mornings in the Youth Room and will rotate between a year of Bible (Old and New Testament) and a year of Lutheran Living. A Fall retreat and a Spring retreat will happen both years with emphasis being on fellowship, connecting with God outside of our four walls, and soaking in some of the heavier parts of the education, i.e, connecting with God outdoors and writing a Faith Statement or learning the Catechism, Ten Commandments, etc.

The confirmation process begins in 7th grade. Although your 6th graders will be learning the same material alongside the confirmation students during Grace Space, they will not start the Confirming process until 7th grade.

During the school year, Confirmation Education does not happen the last Sunday of the Month.
