God calls us through word and sacraments to be the Good News to all people in Christ’s name as the Holy Spirit leads us.
Grace First Lutheran Church is a lively gathering of people of all ages rallying around serving and celebrating Jesus Christ.
Lutheranism began in the 16th century – the Reformation when Martin Luther posted his ninety-five Theses in Wittenberg. It spread throughout Germany and into Scandanavia. Lutheran theology was brought to the New World by the colonists and spread throughout the mid-Atlantic in the 17th century and then spread westward. Many of the Lutherans who settled in Bend originally came from Minnesota and Iowa to work in the timber industry.
There is a basic pattern of worship among Lutherans:
- WE gather
- WE encounter God’s word
- WE share a meal at the Lord’s table
God speaks to us through the readings in the Old and New Testaments of the Bible. Lutherans believe that God’s presence permeates all of Christian Worship.
We love to worship together, to sing together and to enjoy fellowship together!

Words of Institution for Communion
On the night he was betrayed, our Lord Jesus took bread, and gave thanks; broke it, and gave it to his disciples saying: “take and eat; this is my body, given for you. Do this for the remembrance of me.”
Again after supper, He took the cup, gave thanks, and gave it for all to drink saying: “This cup is the new covenant in my blood, shed for you and for all people for the forgiveness of sin. Do this for the remembrance of me.”
Remembering His love for us on the way, at the table, and to the end, we proclaim the mystery of faith.
At Grace First Lutheran, we celebrate an open communion table – all are welcome!
